Improving ceramic performance: Dolomite can enhance the hardness, density and chemical stability of ceramics, endowing them with better wear resistance and compressive strength, thereby extending the service life of ceramics.
Lowering the firing temperature: Adding dolomite to ceramic bodies and glazes can introduce MgO and CaCO3 components, replacing part of talc and calcite, thereby reducing the firing temperature of the body, promoting the dissolution of quartz and the formation of mullite, increasing the amount of quartz used, reducing the amount of feldspar used, and improving the transparency of the body.
Optimizing the microstructure of ceramics: The addition of dolomite helps to form a stable microstructure of ceramics. For instance, during the cooling process after sintering, a certain amount of needle-like mullite will precipitate in the glass body. Mullite has a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion, which can narrow the gap between the expansion coefficients of the binder and the abrasive, and enhance the strength of the binder itself.
