LADLE COVERING COMPOUND
The Ladle Covering Compound is a metallurgical material applied on the surface of the molten steel in the ladle to achieve the main functions of insulation and heat preservation. It is mainly used to prevent the temperature of the molten steel from dropping and to avoid secondary oxidation. It also has the functions of absorbing Al2O3 inclusions and avoiding erosion of the ladle lining. During use, there is no dust flying and it does not affect the cleanliness of the molten steel. It mainly forms a continuous coating layer through physical shielding and generates three layers of molten structures (powder layer, transition layer, slag layer), which can control the cooling rate within 0.5ºC/min.
The ladle covering compound is suitable for covering the surface of molten steel in the ladle for insulation. It can quickly spread over the surface of the molten steel to form a three-layer structure, preventing secondary oxidation and heat radiation of the molten steel, and adsorbing harmful inclusions on the surface of the molten steel. It does not cause slagging, does not corrode the ladle lining, does not form a crust, prolongs the service life of the ladle, is easy to use, and reduces the labor intensity of workers.

APPLICATION
A covering compound applied to the surface of molten steel in the steel ladle, with its main performance being insulation and heat preservation. It must possess basic functions:
(1) Maintain a layer of powder-like substance on the liquid slag layer to prevent the transfer or radiation of heat from the molten steel to the air. The insulation and heat preservation performance is the most important technical indicator of the steel ladle covering agent, which can reduce the casting temperature, save energy consumption, and increase output.
(2) Isolate the contact between the molten steel and the surrounding air.
(3) Not erode or erode slightly the lining of the ladle, and no crust forms after pouring, and it is easy to fall off from the lining.
(4) It must not contaminate the molten steel. When FeO, MnO, SiO2 in the slag come into contact with the molten steel, it may cause an increase in carbon content in the molten steel. Therefore, the content of FeO, MnO, and SiO2 in the covering compound must be reduced, and the particle size, content of carbon substances and the fluctuation of the liquid level must be controlled to minimize the pollution to the molten steel.
(5) It can absorb inclusions in the molten steel, such as Al2O3. With the development of continuous casting and rolling as well as ultra-low carbon steel and alloy steel production, the design, research, development and application of ladle covering compound have also become extremely active.
