![]() | Product Introduction |
Wollastonite is a naturally occurring mineral which is a chemical combination of Calcium, Silicon and Oxygen. Wollastonite is formed when limestone or other high-calcium rocks undergo high temperature and pressure changes sometimes in the presence of silica-bearing fluids such as in skarns or contact metamorphic rocks.
This highly versatile mineral is characterized by its high whiteness, unique needle-like, or ‘acicular’, structure, high brightness, low moisture and oil absorption, and high heat stability.

1.Reduce the firing temperature to save energy and increase efficiency
● Flux-promoting effect: CaO and SiO₂ in wollastonite react with other components in the green body (such as kaolin) at high temperatures to form eutectic substances (such as calcium feldspar and wollastonite glass phase), significantly reducing the sintering temperature (about 100 to 150℃), shortening the firing cycle, and reducing energy consumption.
● Applicable process: Particularly suitable for fast-firing processes (such as roller kiln production of glazed tiles), it can shorten the firing time to within 60 minutes.
2.Reduce drying shrinkage and deformation
● Acicular structure effect: The fibrous or needle-like crystals of wollastonite form a network framework in the green body, enhancing the strength of the green body and reducing shrinkage and cracking during the drying process.
● Low thermal expansion: The coefficient of thermal expansion of wollastonite (6.5×10⁻⁶/℃) is close to that of quartz but much lower than that of kaolin, which helps to reduce thermal stress deformation during firing and improve the dimensional stability of the product.
3.Improve mechanical performance and durability
● Enhance the strength of the body:After firing, wollastonite reacts with other components to form mineral phases such as calcium feldspar (CaAl₂Si₂O₈), significantly enhancing the ceramic's flexural strength (by approximately 20% to 30%) and abrasion resistance.
● Thermal shock resistance:By adjusting the thermal expansion coefficient of the body, the resistance to sudden temperature changes of ceramics (such as sanitary ware and heat-resistant tableware) can be improved.
4.Optimize the glaze surface quality
●Glaze additive:Wollastonite can serve as a calcium source in glazes, promoting uniform melting of the glaze layer, reducing bubbles and pinholes, and enhancing the gloss and flatness of the glaze surface.
●Reduce glaze cracking:Its low shrinkage characteristic can alleviate the stress between the body and the glaze and reduce the risk of glaze cracking.
5.Replace traditional raw materials and reduce costs
