INTRODUCTION

Wollastonite is a kind of multi-purpose industrial mineral, which plays an important role in modern industry because of its unique physical and chemical properties.In the ceramic production process, the appropriate addition of wollastonite can effectively reduce the temperature required for firing, shorten the firing cycle, and achieve rapid firing at a lower temperature, thus reducing energy consumption. This addition can also enhance the mechanical strength of ceramic products, reduce the problem of cracks and deformation caused by the firing process, while improving the smoothness and brightness of the glaze, enhance the overall fastness of the body, and these combined effects help significantly improve the qualified rate of the finished product. In addition, the inclusion of wollastonite helps to prevent cracks, small cracks, damage and enamel defects that may occur during the use of porcelain, ensuring the quality and durability of ceramic products.

Applications


I. Flux
Wollastonite can be used as a flux, mainly in the smelting of blast furnace iron water and manganese alloys. In the blast furnace, silica fume can lower the melting temperature of the furnace materials, facilitate the separation of iron water and slag, and also absorb the impurities generated during smelting and descend to the bottom of the molten pool to ensure the quality of the iron water. In the smelting process of manganese alloys, wollastonite plays a role in increasing temperature and promoting the dissolution of the alloy. Because the mineral components contained in wollastonite are low, using wollastonite as a flux can avoid the generation of excessive impurities and oxides during the smelting process.

II. Reducing Agent
The Wollastonite contains high levels of silicon and calcium, etc., and is commonly used as a reducing agent in metal smelting. During the smelting process, the wollastonite can react with other metal oxides to reduce pure metals. In addition, by taking advantage of the property that wollastonite reacts with gases at high temperatures to produce CO, it can also be used to refine synthetic gas and distill liquid chemicals of high value.

III. Desulfurizer
Wollastonite can also be used as a desulfurizer in industry. In the steel, casting, and coking industries, sulfur-containing compounds are often produced, which can affect product quality and production efficiency. Using wollastonite can accelerate the conversion of sulfur and reduce the amount of sulfur-containing substances, achieving the purpose of desulfurization. In addition, wollastonite can effectively absorb and reduce the sulfur content in metals, improving the purity of metals.

IV. Other Applications
Wollastonite has many other applications. For instance, it can be used to make building materials such as cement, insulation materials, and refractory materials; it can also be used to manufacture industrial raw materials like rubber, plastic, and ceramics. Additionally, wollastonite can be used in the production of feed and fertilizers, providing essential elements and nutrients for livestock and poultry.

V. Temperature Regulator
In steel smelting, wollastonite is an important temperature regulator. Due to its high thermal stability and chemical inertness, wollastonite can regulate the temperature of the molten steel, allowing it to cool stably within an appropriate temperature range, thereby improving the quality and performance of the steel.

VI. Source of Silicon Element
The silicon dioxide present in wollastonite is a common source of silicon element. It is added to the furnace during steel production to enhance the hardness and strength of the steel. Moreover, silicon element can improve the wear resistance and corrosion resistance of steel, thereby extending the service life of the steel.

VII. Reducing Oxide Content
Wollastonite also has a reducing effect. In steel smelting, it can reduce the oxide content in the steel. This is because during the high-temperature pyrolysis process of wollastonite, silicon dioxide can be reduced to elemental silicon and react chemically with the oxides in the steel, thereby being reduced to useful oxides.

VIII. Stabilizing the Steel Water Temperature
Wollastonite can stabilize the temperature of the steel water, preventing the generation of inclusions in the steel alloy due to temperature fluctuations. At the same time, it can prolong the molten state, enhance the wetting property of the steel water, and allow the alloy elements to be fully dispersed, which is beneficial to the improvement of steel quality.
